Sterling Davis is a Photographer based in LA.
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Sterling has been based in Los Angeles since 1994. Growing up on a large prep school campus, he developed a deep appreciation for nature and a passion for photography.
Sterling developed an interest in photography around 12 years old, but started taking it seriously in high school, shooting for the school paper and working with 35mm and medium format film. He refined his skills while in college in Boston before moving to Los Angeles, where the city's scale and energy became a perfect backdrop for his work
In 2003, Sterling transitioned from film to digital, embracing the flexibility of DSLR photography to refine his craft. He soon focused on capturing the essence of Los Angeles—ranging from landscapes and portraits to interiors of the city's restaurants and nightclubs.
Sterling gained wide recognition for his nighttime photography, capturing the unique energy of Los Angeles after dark. His 'Los Angeles at Night' series—originally a personal project based in downtown—evolved into a striking body of work featured in galleries and publications around the world. Known for its vivid, cinematic quality, the series has drawn comparisons to the visual style of Michael Mann’s 2004 film Collateral. One of his images of the city taken from Griffith Park Observatory was licensed to be included in the opening title sequence of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.
From local neighborhoods to national spotlights, Sterling continues to document Los Angeles with a distinct visual voice that captures its pulse and personality.
